新学術領域・顔身体学 James Tanaka 先生講演会開催のご案内
この度，新学術「顔・身体学」領域では，以下の通り講演会を開催することとなりました。顔認知における顕著な業績で知られるカナダヴィクトリア大学心理学部の Jamaes Tanaka 教授をお招きし，講演会を行います。ご関心をお持ちの方は是非ご参加くださいますようお願いいたします。

- 講演要旨
- All human faces are created equal. We all share the same face parts (two eyes, a nose, and a mouth) arranged in a similar spatial configuration. Despite the perceptual similarity of faces, we are able to recognize the face of a friend, significant other, or colleague in a blink of an eye. How is this impressive feat of visual recognition accomplished? Faces, unlike most objects, are encoded and retrieved as holistic memories. In my talk, I will discuss what a holistic face memory is. I will examine recent work in our lab suggesting that holistic face representations are formed in milliseconds and produce memories that can last a lifetime. This research has implications for understanding how experience shapes the recognition of own- and other-race faces and how breakdowns in face recognition occur in autism and prosopagnosia.
